1. Good labeling

There is no harm in placing too many labels on your luggage – but pay attention to what you write on the label.

  • Avoid putting the phone in your home – instead, register your work or cell phone.
  • If you want to put an address on the label, put a mailbox or work address and not your home address.
  • You can also place a copy of your itinerary inside your luggage.
  • Do not forget to put a label inside your luggage as the labels on the outside can also come off or peel off.

2. Check the destination shown on the registration ticket

Read carefully the destination labels that airline employees attach to your luggage. They must display the airport code of your destination with the exact flight numbers.

  • Ensure that airline employees give you the correct baggage claim to retrieve your baggage at the end of your flight.

3. Buy or create unique luggage

Many suitcases have the same characteristics: dull colors and a lack of distinctive marks. When one sees hundreds of similar luggage on the luggage carousel, it is easy to confuse them.

  • Try to buy unique colored luggage that stands out from the rest and is easy to spot.
  • You can also customize your luggage by drawing on it or by affixing colored ribbons or stickers.

4. Never carry dangerous items

If you carry a dangerous item in your luggage, such as a rifle, ammunition or fireworks, the airline will be entitled to confiscate your baggage for search. If your luggage is confiscated, it may delay them and prevent them from reaching their destination or worse from being lost if they are shipped on another flight.

  • Find out what the airline has allowed to carry in your luggage before flying to avoid confiscation of your luggage.

5. Purchase travel insurance

Purchasing travel insurance guarantees that the monetary value of your items will be refunded if your luggage is lost or damaged.

  • No one can guarantee that your luggage will never be lost but by taking a few precautions, you can reduce the risk of getting to your destination without your luggage.
